Mbokishi Mara Conservancy

The development of this conservancy will help to improve local livelihoods, restore rangelands and aid in the protection of wildlife.

Mbokishi Mara will utilize a mixed model and is the newest conservation solution being implemented in the Mara. This means communities and wildlife coexist in the same space. Mbokishi Mara is now part of the northern conservancies and will work closely with Enonkishu conservancy.

COVID-19 brought significant disruption for tourism and conservation across Kenya and in particular within the Maasai Mara. The Foundation’s support has helped fill this gap through the provision of the majority of the funding to pay for land leases and the creation of a ranger team to take part in anti-poaching. In addition, all rangers will be covered under our existing life cover, WIBA that VIVA 365 partnered with the Foundation.

‘’My husband was a ranger who was killed by a buffalo, I think we used to live within their territory, this could have been avoided if we had the support that we are getting now. With Mbokishi Mara conservation, more lives will be saved, more animals protected, our children will go to school and the community will be peaceful,’’ Narropil Koriata, a landowner at Mbokishi
