Rangers' Support

As with many underfunded conservation areas across Africa, the provision of appropriate uniforms and equipment in many conservation areas around Kenya is not at the level that it should be in order to maintain effective and sustainable conservation initiatives. This issue has manifested across Africa over the last year due to the sharp decline in tourism caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting cut in revenue streams for conservancies and national wildlife services alike.

Under the guidance of ForRangers, and coordinated by Enonkishu management, the Foundation’s donation included uniforms, socks, raincoats, boots, jackets, and rechargeable torches, benefiting 45 rangers between the Enonkishu, Lemek, and Ol Chorro conservancies. Some of these rangers had no uniforms at all and others had last received new uniforms over three years ago.

Together with increased collaboration between the Lemek, Ol Chorro, Enonkishu, and Mara North conservancies, the Foundation is helping to build a more effective and robust line of defense at the outer edge of the greater Mara area, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the conservancies within the area, and safeguarding one of Africa’s most important ecosystems.
