In line with the Platcorp Foundation’s focus on generating positive impact on the environment and communities, it has continued its support for conservancies in the greater northern Maasai Mara ecosystem. The Group has once again provided support for the UltraMARAthon race with assistance in the form of organisation and administrative support, funding support and direct sponsorship from five of our subsidiaries: Platinum Credit, Premier Credit, Momentum Credit, Eezy group and Viva.
The event, which saw over 200 participants from multiple countries compete in a 50km race crossing several conservancies adjacent to the Maasai Mara reserve, was once again a success and will have a significantly positive impact on the region going forward.
Funds raised will be channelled towards three key initiatives including the Mara Elephant project that seeks to recruit, train and deploy rangers to curb elephant poaching and human wildlife conflict. It will also support rangers in the conservancies in terms of the provision of uniforms, equipment and administration. And, lastly, it will help in the expansion of a women’s health centre that provides prenatal/postnatal care, family planning education and services - the center will assist 50 to 60 women in childbirth each month.
The support will also go a long way to encourage tourism both locally and internationally, this will in turn provide exposure and raise awareness on challenges of the ecosystem. The Group prides itself on its conservation efforts and looks forward to participating again next year.
