♻️ Waste Less, Do More:  Platcorp's Journey Towards a Sustainable Office

When you hear the term "sustainability," most people immediately think of carbon emissions or switching to solar energy. But there’s a less visible part of our environmental impact that often goes unnoticed: office waste.

At Platcorp, we’ve come to realise that reducing office waste isn’t just about being responsible, it’s about being intentional. Over the last year, we’ve made small yet meaningful shifts to manage waste more efficiently, and the results have been encouraging.

Let’s Talk About Paper

We’ll be honest, paper used to fly around our office like confetti. Whether it was printing forms, meeting notes, or that one team member who always printed out their emails (you know who you are), it added up. But we’ve made real progress.

Over the past year, we’ve recycled more than 2420 kilograms of paper. That's a significant amount of trees saved and a victory we're truly proud of.

Beyond recycling, we’ve moved most of our internal processes online. E-approvals, shared drives, and digital signatures are now part of our everyday routine. No more printing HR forms just to scan them back in. It’s these small changes that make life easier while helping us reduce unnecessary waste.

Automating with Purpose

Part of our strategy has been embracing automation, not just for convenience, but to be smarter with our resources. Less paper means fewer mistakes, faster approval, and more transparency. Staff can track documents in real time instead of flipping through folders—plus, we’ve saved a ton of storage space.

And we’ve noticed something else: when you make things easier and more efficient, people are more likely to get on board. Automation isn’t about going digital just for the sake of it—it’s about enabling better habits and freeing up time for things that matter.

Waste Separation: A Culture Shift

One of the things we underestimated was how powerful waste separation could be—not just for recycling, but for awareness. By placing clearly labelled waste separation bins (organic waste and plastic waste) in visible locations across the office and training staff on how to use them, we’ve seen a shift in behaviour.

People now pause before tossing something away. Is it recyclable? Should it go in the paper bin? Those quick decisions are shaping a culture of responsibility, one that extends beyond just the workplace.

A Better Way to Hydrate

Remember those massive 20-litre water bottles that had to be hauled in and out every week? We’ve swapped them for bottleless water dispensers—and it’s been a game changer. Not only are they more efficient and hygienic, but they’ve also helped us reduce drinking water wastage and costs.

It might seem like a small tweak, but when you multiply that change across multiple branches, the impact adds up fast.

Every habit counts. Every drop, every sheet, every click.
