The Platcorp Foundation has been recognised at the Warriors for Good Awards 2026, earning top honours for its work in climate action, biodiversity conservation, and financial inclusion.
The Foundation was awarded the Gold Warrior in Biodiversity and Ecosystem Management, recognising its leadership in restoring critical ecosystems through locally anchored, science-led approaches. Central to this recognition is its work in the South West Mau Forest, where restoration efforts prioritise indigenous biodiversity, habitat recovery, and long-term ecosystem resilience. By combining reforestation with active community stewardship, the Foundation is helping rebuild ecological integrity while strengthening the natural systems that underpin water security and livelihoods.
The Foundation also received a Silver Warrior in Climate Action and Environmental Conservation for its ongoing restoration of the South West Mau Forest, one of Kenya’s most critical water towers. Since 2022, the initiative has rehabilitated 70 hectares across the Tirigoi A/B and Tirigoi D blocks, planting over 77,000 indigenous trees with a verified survival rate of up to 87 percent. Delivered through a community-driven model, the project engages local scouts, seasonal workers, and community forest associations to ensure long-term protection, while supporting livelihoods through activities such as beekeeping and eco-tourism. The initiative is now informing broader restoration efforts across the Mau ecosystem.
In addition, the Tunza Fund, a flagship initiative under the Foundation, was recognised as a finalist in Financial Inclusion and Access to Finance. The Fund pioneers a blended finance model that links conservation outcomes with economic empowerment, using conservancy lease income to unlock affordable financing for underserved landowners. With over USD 300,000 deployed to date and a growing pipeline, the model has the potential to protect more than 100,000 hectares while delivering meaningful economic benefits to rural communities.
These recognitions reflect Platcorp Foundation’s commitment to scalable, locally anchored solutions that deliver measurable environmental and social impact.
